10 Resources for World Book Day

World Book Day takes place this week, on Thursday 1st March 2012. Here are 10 great resources / sites that can help you if you’re planning to run lots of great book-themed activities in your classroom:

1) World Book Day – The official site is bursting with resources, videos and events that you can get involved in. You will also be able to watch authors and illustrators live online during World Book Day itself!

2) World Book Day App – The official app has exclusive new short stories from Malorie Blackman, Neil Gaiman, Charlie Higson, Anthony Horowitz and many other authors. There are also plans to update the app throughout the year with new samples, news, videos and extras. Find out more here.

3) Social Media – You can also follow what is happening before, during and after World Book Day with the official World Book Day Facebook and Twitter pages.

4) Teaching Library - Our Teaching Library site has lesson ideas, videos and resources linked to lots of popular children’s books. Take a look at all of the resources for books by Roald Dahl, Julia Donaldson, Michael Morpurgo and many others.

5) Primary Resources has a large collection of resources for particular books too.

6) There are many great author websites online where you can find out more information about the authors and their books. Try visiting the websites of Roald Dahl, Jacqueline Wilson, Malorie Blackman, Andrew Norriss, Julia Donaldson and Michael Morpurgo to get you started!

7) Twinkl has a special book list section which recommends different books and shows if there are any related resources available for teachers.

8 ) Signed Stories is one of my favourite sites. It allows you to watch and listen to lots of different stories being read aloud, with accompanying sign language and subtitles too.

9) There are lots of fantastic videos on Youtube which give information about authors and stories. There are also many videos which allow you to listen to stories. Tesco have a Kids’ Book Club which features celebrities reading stories. Here is one of them:
