Lots of classrooms around the world have Smartboards installed and SMART provide a free program called ‘Smart Notebook‘ that is a wonderful tool for teaching and learning. The latest version was released last week with lots of new features, including:

  • An activity builder that lets you make your own activity objects that react to actions.
  • An embedded web browser so you can browse the internet from within the program.
  • An updated toolbar, giving you easier access to the range of tools available.
  • A page reset option which takes Notebook pages back to their last saved state.
  • Audio recording.
  • New pens, including a crayon and a customisable creative pen.
This video gives a quick overview of some of the new features:
Danny Nicholson, creator of the Whiteboard Blog, has posted a great introduction to Smart Notebook 11 here and he has also made a useful video explaining how to use the Activity Builder:

Smart Notebook 11 is a free upgrade for those with Smartboards and it can be downloaded from http://smarttech.com/notebook11. There are also lots of free Notebook files available online from popular teaching resource sites, including the SMART Exchange. If you don’t have access to a Smartboard licence key, you can still open Notebook files using the free web viewer or the downloadable Smart Notebook Express software.
