Get Involved in The Great Plant Hunt!

Posted: 20 May 2012 02:00 AM PDT

The Great Plant Hunt takes place next week, from 21st to 25th May, and your school can get involved. The challenge requires pupils to record the whereabouts of ten plant species in flower as part of a UK wide phenology study. The data generated will help scientists at Kew examine the possible effects of climate change on our natural wildlife.

The Great Plant Hunt site offers a huge collection of educational resources, including plant identification kits, videos, assembly resources, interactive games, story books, worksheets and lesson plans for children in all primary age groups. Schools can upload photos of the plants that they find and look on a map of the UK to find other schools that have spotted similar plants.

This sounds like a great activity that gets children involved in real science outside the classroom. Get involved!
