10 Resources for The Big Draw

The Big Draw, a campaign that aims to get everyone drawing, takes place in October year. Are you taking part this month? Here are lots of resources that can help children to develop their drawing skills:

1) The official site has information about the campaign, as well as listings for events that you can get involved.

2) DrawingNow has lots of online tutorials that teach you how to draw different things. Tutorials can be paused and rewound so that you can follow along and users can also upload their own drawing tutorials.

 

3) Curriculum Online has lots of useful background information about drawing in schools, with some great suggestions for starting points.

4) In this Teachers TV video, Quentin Blake takes us through the story, ideas and illustration techniques behind two of his own books.

5) Teaching Ideas has a special collection of resources to help children with their drawing and sketching skills.

6) 123Peppy has a wide range of drawing videos, all of which are well organised and easy to find.

7) There are a number of drawing videos and tutorials on Youtube and other video sharing sites. Here is one example:

8 ) DragoArt.com has a huge collection of drawing tutorials and videos. Whilst this is a great resource, be aware that some of them might not be suitable for younger children, so check yourself first.

9) This tutorial video from the BBC demonstrates how to turn basic stick figures into solid and well drawn characters.

10) This wonderful site from the Guardian teaches you how to draw characters from your favourite children’s books.
