Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the earth's crust and is considered the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. The challenge for expedition participants will be to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Kilimanjaro 2013 in aid of the Responsible Gambling Trust promises to be an incredible adventure for all concerned. Following the Rongai Route, the team will trek through farmland and forest – with the possibility of wildlife viewing – before passing through several different climate zones. And at night, as temperatures drop, participants will experience the crisp cool air under star-studded African skies. The itinerary has been carefully planned to ensure that participants acclimatise to the altitude as much as possible to maximise their chances of reaching the summit. Furthermore, the Rongai Route is a trekking route and does not require any technical climbing ability to ascend. Having successfully summited twice before, the mountain is no stranger to Karen Churches Peacock: "In 1997 I completed an independent sponsored climb of the mountain and, at the time, it was the most physical and emotional challenge that I had ever undertaken. The experience was also extremely motivating and proved to be the catalyst for a series of further global fundraising adventures. Eight years later, in October 2005, I returned to Kilimanjaro and was honoured to lead a group of inspirational and determined women – of varying ages and abilities – to the roof of Africa." | United Kingdom Register online for Machine Games Duty Posted: 01 Nov 2012 04:39 AM PDT With MGD coming into force on 1 February 2013, anyone responsible for premises from which machine games are provided for play must register with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for MGD by 1 January 2013. The person responsible for such premises will typically be someone who holds a relevant machine game licence or permit, or the operator, though this won't always be the case. HMRC's MGD Online Registration Service, launched today, is a secure, quick, and easy way to register, which will provide an immediate on-screen acknowledgement that HMRC has received your application. Registering for the MGD online service is simple – visit www.hmrc.gov.uk/machinegamesduty/machine-games-duty.htm and follow the instructions. HMRC's MGD online service can be used by those responsible for premises from where machine games are provided for play, or their agents, to register and de-register, as well as make changes to the information they gave during initial MGD registration. MGD is an important change for the industry, as it will replace both Amusement Machine Licensing Duty (AMLD) – an annual charge for making a gaming machine available for play – and standard-rate VAT on net takings. It will be payable where customers pay to play a game on a machine in the hope of winning a cash prize which is greater than the cost to play. There will be two rates of duty for MGD:
