Posted: 21 Nov 2012 09:00 AM PST

Wild About Britain is a new children's story competition, run by the RSPCA. Children are asked to write a short story, no more than 500 words long, featuring an animal or animals from British wildlife. There are two age categories (11 years and under, and 12 to 16 year-olds) and a judging panel will award a gold, silver and bronze for each category. People can also vote for their favourite story online.

The closing date for the competition is midnight on Monday 10th December 2012 and the winner will receive a selection of books from Random House publishers and be published on the website. There are a number of great entries already posted on the website, so your pupils can use these as inspiration for their own short stories. Good luck!
