Teachers "significantly skewed" results in the assessment this year to push the maximum number of children over the target threshold, it has been claimed. A tenfold increase in the number of English schools converting to academies has meant £1bn in extra costs, says the government’s spending watchdog. Business leaders say some UK schools have become “exam factories” and are calling for children to be given a broader education. Schools appear to be failing to capitalise on the inspirational legacy of the London Olympics, says a survey. Pupils with birthdays between May and August are around a third more likely to require intensive tuition in numeracy to bring them up to speed. White working-class boys are lagging dramatically behind other children at the age of five amid growing fears over poor parenting skills in the most deprived communities. Plans for the UK’s first qualification on body image have been announced today. An increasing number of teachers are reporting that they are being bullied online. A school in Bournemouth was so worried about the problem of children not sleeping at home that it set up some ‘sleep workshops’ to help parents. There are still more than a million young people not in education, employment or training (Neet) in England, despite a dip in the numbers. A young film-maker from Hamburg in Germany has been busy turning his toys into the stars of his own home-made animation movies. Do you want to appear in a Teaching Advert? Posted: 23 Nov 2012 09:00 AM PST A casting agency are looking for teachers to appear in a series of photographic advertisements for the Department of Education to promote teaching as a career to graduates. The DOE wants to use real teachers in the ads. The criteria for teachers who will be featured in the ads is as follows: All teachers must hold a 2:1 or 1st degree in their chosen subject. Teachers based in Physics, Chemistry and Maths are required. Male and female teachers between 25 and 35 years old are welcome to apply. The shoot will take place in the week commencing the 3rd December or week commencing 10th December. Each teacher will be needed for one day only. If the shoot is on a school day they will pay for a supply teacher to cover while the staff member is away from school but there is also the possibility of shooting at a weekend so there would be no disruption to school staff. There is also a £200 fee payable to each teacher and all travel expenses to the shoot in London will be paid. The agency are not looking for 'models' – but rather enthusiastic teachers who have a passion for their job.
