Nottingham's leading entertainment venue picked up a brace of awards at the regional round of the National Training Awards ceremony held at the East Midlands conference centre.

Mark Hands Venue Director Alea Nottingham

The accolades were presented to Alea, the Upper Parliament nightspot which came runner up in the coveted Employer of the Year category while Jolanta Szulczynska, who works at the popular venue picked up second place in the Personal Achiever Award.

Venue Director Mark Hands said staff had worked hard on NVQ schemes and was delighted by the recognition given.

He said: "Working in the leisure and entertainment sector it's imperative to consistently strive for excellent standards of service and high customer retention. This helps create the perfect customer experience.

"To achieve these standards we need to have in place a team that always puts the customer first in every decision we make and is why there is a consistent programme of team training in place.

"Our approach is to provide a very vigorous in-house customer training system which includes regular reviews to identify established areas and areas for improvement.

"This gives the people who work here the opportunity to develop their careers, gain invaluable experience while at the same time having some fun. "These awards are no small feat and the fact that we have been recognised as one of the best employers in Nottingham is something to be really proud of and we remain committed to developing all team members at all levels.

"We hope our approach will set an example to other sites in the group to show the benefits of working alongside local colleges which helps maximise staff potential.

"I'd also like to thank our House Manager Emma Alleyne who has been instrumental in spearheaded this project.

The National Training Awards are the UK’s leading accolade for businesses, organisations and individuals who have achieved lasting excellence and success through exceptionally effective investment training.

Owned by Ceasers Entertainment which owns the world famous Ceasers Palace in Las Vegas, Alea's pedigree is second-to-none.

With a new Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill restaurant, those looking for a great place to eat, plus a fun night out, will be hard pushed to find a better place to go.

The venue also puts on regular 'theatre-style' shows, live music, events and Salsa dancing classes.

Statement by Chairman Robert Smith Regarding Governor Chris Christie’s Veto of a New Jersey Online Gaming Bill

Posted: 08 Feb 2013 02:20 AM PST

New Jersey governor Chris Christie has, once again, conditionally vetoed a bill that would have allowed for Internet gambling in New Jersey.

"Gov. Christie got it right – again. It makes no sense for New Jersey to create a law that would potentially undermine business and tribal interests throughout the country, while not providing New Jersey, and specifically Atlantic City, the business advantage the bill sought to impart," said the Honorable Robert Smith, Chairman of the California Tribal Business Alliance. "CTBA is working to develop legislation that will impose strong controls, mandate disclosures, and promote the highest standards of integrity in the gaming industry. Online gaming is a slippery slope, and putting at risk a multi-million dollar industry, the associated jobs, and the revenue interests to impacted states, without safeguards, is a gamble no one should be willing to take."
