We begin and end with a win-win situation. In the US the State of Jersey has made the first move and BOOM! Ahead of the competition the ink is now drying on a bill that will enable residents of the state to access online gaming through Atlantic City Servers. Gambling money by jersey residents will stay in-State and it's a win-win. Now watch the other states follow suit before we start the process in about a year's time of granting cross-state access for a slice of the pie. Meanwhile, hats off to Clarion. They pulled off the transformation from Earls Court to ExCel with what looked like relative ease although I think the "Swan Analogy" of graceful on the surface whilst paddling furiously could have been more truthful. Yes, it was exhausting if you had to shuttle between appointments at opposite ends of the hall but we understand that next year the North Hall may be used, making the space more "square" in shape. One of the most commonly heard criticisms about Earls Court (apart from the knuckle-dragging guards) was poor traffic on day two. At ExCel I never heard that once and it seemed to be busy throughout the whole event; some exhibitors said they had picked the wrong location and would try to move next year but in general, everyone seemed very happy. It never snowed; guests enjoyed the conviviality of showcase events, notably at the Hippodrome, and it was a great chance to see Aspers at Westfield even if my credit card did go into meltdown in the adjacent shopping centre. I won't dwell on this issue but instead will clue you in our travels over the next few months: Peter White is off to Manila for the Solaire Casino opening then taking in the Singapore casino scene whilst Damien Connelly is off to ENADA and Fer Interazar. I am off to visit Crown Casino in Melbourne to report back on whether they have managed to retain and improve the high roller market that they planned 2 years ago when I last dropped by. And then of course there is also the Slot Summit in Dortmund. And so we end with another win-win situation - a busy time all round and we are spending advertisers' money wisely - by visiting some of their clients. Glyn Thomas Editor My blog |
