ALEA LENDS HANDS TO MAKE NOTTINGHAM ‘BID’ KEY PRIORITY FOR CITY Posted: 28 Mar 2013 12:57 PM PDT 28 March 2013: The boss from Alea in Nottingham is providing full support towards an initiative that aims to make the East Midlands city a safe, clean and welcoming environment to all visitors. The Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID) focuses on delivering activities to ensure Nottingham is the shopping and leisure destination of choice and Mark Hands, venue director of the Upper Parliament Street nightspot, is now helping deliver a series of initiatives that will make a difference to businesses in the city. Comprising approximately 750 members, including retail and leisure businesses, the Nottingham BID is now looking at a number of ideas that it is hoped will help make the city much more attractive for people to visit. This includes environmental and access initiatives such as teams of street ambassadors, taxi marshals and street pastors. The Purple Flag initiative, Floral Trail, parking initiatives and additional cleansing services are also being looked at. Licensing matters are also on the BID agenda. Representing the licensed trade on key issues affecting their businesses, BID will work with partners in the city including Nottinghamshire Police and Nottingham City Council to ensure a safe environment and promote responsible drinking. Mark said: "Being part of the leisure and entertainment sector we are fully aware of our responsibilities to provide a safe and fun environment for all our customers. At Alea we are already part of the Drink Aware and Challenge 21 schemes so we're delighted to be part of the Nottingham BID. "To have a more cohesive approach to boosting business in Nottingham and initiatives that are much more customer focused is great news. "Some of the ideas already being considered will really make a difference to make this historic and great city a fantastic place to visit and all staff at Alea and the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill will give them their full backing." Originating in the US the concept of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) has now been adopted in many countries across the world as a successful model for businesses working together for a joint benefit.
