March 14th is Pi Day every year. It’s a great way of encouraging young and old children to think about maths, shape and special numbers. 1) The Pi Day site has lots of information about the number Pi, with videos and sightings of Pi around the web. There is also a huge list of Pi Day Activities for Teachers. 2) TeachPi.org have lots of suggested activities, stories and music to help children to learn about Pi. 3) This video, from the Teacher’s TV archive, introduces Pi to pupils. 4) I’ve recently made a number of Pi resources for Teaching Ideas. 5) The Exploratorium site has a number of suggested activity ideas linked to Pi. 6) There are a number of videos about Pi on Youtube. Click here to view the embedded video. 7) The Math Forum site have a number of songs about Pi to sing! 8 ) The BBC have a clear explanation of Pi on their Bitesize site. 9) Maths is Fun have a suggested practical activity that can help students to find an approximate value for Pi. 10) Scholastic have some information about Pi, as well as a range of fun activities to try, on their site.
