Brilliant Blogger of the Week: Simon Haughton Posted: 04 Mar 2013 10:00 AM PST
This week’s brilliant blogger is Simon Haughton. Simon offers lots of free ideas to teach ICT to children, along with downloadable resources, sites for children and an educational app! Simon works as the ICT manager at Parkfield Primary School near Rochdale and teaches ICT across the school in both key stages. He started his blog just over three years ago when one of his followers on Twitter persuaded him to start sharing some of his ICT ideas in more than 140 characters. Simon really enjoys blogging and he explained to me why that is: “I find that updating my blog is a pleasure to do because it gives me the chance to reflect upon my lessons in my own time without having the pressures of deadlines or word counts to worry about. Having now published over 100 posts covering a diverse range of ICT topics, it’s made me realise what a huge amount of effort I actually put into my work to ensure that the children at my school get the best ICT education that I can possibly give them. Indeed, by analysing the visitor numbers to my blog and by reading the many lovely emails that teachers choose to send me from across the globe thanking me for the inspiration that I have given them, I’ve also begun to realise what a great help my blog has had in other schools too. I love writing up my ideas to share with others and knowing that my blog is now having such a positive impact on the education of so many children makes makes me very happy. ” Some of the most popular posts on Simon’s blog include:
Last autumn, Simon published a free e-book containing all his strategies for teaching outstanding ICT lessons. He also creates the wonderful Infant Encyclopedia, Geography Encyclopedia and History Encyclopedia (which is also available as an iPad app). He even offers personalised ICT advice if you have a question! Visit Simon’s blog here! |
