The best teachers should be loaned out to under-achieving schools to help them improve, according to a new report. The brightest boys from poor homes in England and Scotland are at least two-and-a-half years behind in reading compared with those from the richest homes, a study suggests. Children in England will be required to cover subjects up to two years earlier than their peers in top-performing nations, a study suggests. Universities are being urged to support specialist maths schools, amid concerns too few youngsters pursue the subject. Head teachers in England are being urged to ban packed lunches to increase the take-up of school dinners and promote healthy eating. Late nights and lax bedtime routines can blunt young children’s minds, research suggests.
