Welcome to our October edition, which is available widely at the G2E show in Las Vegas - on our booth 5745 and at the main entrance. According to Companies & Markets recent research the online gaming market is expected to grow to be worth $173.5bn by 2018 - a rise of 5.5 over the next 5 years. This will be given an even larger boost by the decision by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which has also confirmed once again the well-established principle that Member States cannot restrict the national gambling market to protect "the commercial interest of incumbents or for other economic reasons". The other elephant in the room back in Europe is the whole issue of Eurovegas itself that promises 250,000 jobs. That's a tall order but will be welcomed by the region that has 600,000+ unemployed but will this project really live up to expectations? Spanish banks still have to offer up considerable security so the scheme is not yet finalized but what's the alternative? Turning to this edition we have our usual bumper-filled interviews and insights including Scott Butera Chief Operating Officer & President Foxwoods talking about how the resort is looking forward to a bright future; Paul Armitage Operations Director at Grosvenor who looks ahead to their re-brand of their extended portfolio; Kurt Gissane MD at Bally Technologies Asia Pacific talks about how they are offering an exciting and winning experience to players; Geoff Freeman the New CEO & President of the AGA is in the hotseat; and we look at gaming in Manila - tipped to be the new Macau. We hope you have a great show and look forward to meeting some of you over the three days. Glyn Thomas Editor Casino Life blog |
