Take part in an exciting Global Collaborative Project! Posted: 13 Apr 2014 12:23 PM PDT
On 22nd April 2014, English poet Philip Wells will be starting a barefoot walk of 1,000 miles through England and Wales! His journey will includes lots of visits to schools and performances of poetry along the way! The aim of the project is to raise awareness and funds for the billion children still living in poverty around the world (most of whom do not have shoes or access to education). Schools around the world are being asked to get involved in the project any time from now until the end of August. To take part, just get your students to draw round both of their feet. On one of the ‘feet’, they can write a poem, a wish or a message for the future. The other ‘foot’ should be decorated in a style of their choice, perhaps using colours / patterns / symbols that represent their country. When all of the feet have been completed, teachers should create a collage and take a photo, sending it to the Barefoot Billion site. Some of the work can also be posted and this will be used at an exhibition at Somerset House in London later this year! There are lots of other educational activities, along with full instructions for the main activity, on the Barefoot Billion site. The planners of the project are hoping to get over 1,000 schools involved from 180 countries. Will your school be taking part?
