Resource Site of the Week: MFL Sunderland

Posted: 05 Nov 2012 09:00 AM PST

Our next Resource Site of the Week is an amazing resource for teachers of foreign languages…

MFL Sunderland is a resource-sharing website for MFL, from Key Stage 1 all the way through to Key Stage 5.  Resources are available for French, Spanish, German and Italian, and all 5000 or so of the resources are made available completely free of charge to people all around the world.  The site receives an average of 40,000 hits a week, and the most popular resources are KS3 French. Resources on the site include schemes of work, lesson plans, Powerpoint presentations, worksheets, puzzles, games, lesson starter ideas and more.

The site is created by Clare Seccombe, a teacher and consultant for Primary Languages. She currently teaches Spanish in one primary school in Sunderland and French in a second. The site grew out of an informal email resource-sharing group in Sunderland LA at the turn of the century(!). After a lot of planning and negotiating it finally went live for the first time in April 2004.

MFL Sunderland has two sister sites.  International Education Sunderland gives information about projects and partnerships with schools in other countries, while estrellas has interactive games and activities for French, Spanish and German for students to play in class or at home.

These sites are essential tools for teachers of MFL. Highly recommended!
